Do you have an idea rolling around in your head? Would you like to know how to start an internet business? It is actually very easy, and something you can work on today.

In the past few years, I have begun a number of businesses. I have even been able to help others get their businesses off the ground, and each time I get started, I always use article marketing. I do this because well-written articles will bring in high search engine rankings and in turn more traffic to my site. Let me show you why it works.

The first reason they work is because you submit them to an authority site. When you submit to article directories like Ezine articles, Article Snatch, or Articlesbase, many times your article will get ranked in Google for your particular keyword right away. Usually within weeks. So write a 300-700 article with a resource box that points back to your website, and use the authority of these sites to build your reputation as an expert in the field.

The second reason they work is because they generate direct traffic. Once you submit your article to an article directory, other people come and pick it up. Let’s say you have a website about dogs, and these are other people’s sites: a dog blog, dog health forum, dogs.com, puppies.com. They all come and pick up your article, post it on their site, and when people come to visit those sites, they read your article. They also see your resource box, and then they can find their way over to your website. You get easy traffic all from that one article.

Speaking of links, articles provide great backward links. You can think of a backward link as a vote. Every time someone clicks on one of these links, your page gets a vote. The more votes, the higher your rank. The higher your rank, the more traffic you get and thereby the more business.

Just because you get a high search engine ranking does not mean you are going to hold on to it if you do not keep working on it. This is because there are other competitors trying to get that same spot. But using article marketing can help you keep it. Writing and posting articles is your best first step in starting your internet business.

I know a lot of people who have an idea for an internet business. They just need to know where to begin. When we talk, I encourage them to learn how to find and use keywords in their niche. Keywords are crucial because they are the basic building blocks when you start an internet business. You use keywords in your articles. Google finds your keywords in your titles and in the body of your article and ranks your page higher. People find your page because you are closer to the top, and you get more traffic. With more traffic comes more sales. It is that simple.

So your first step is to research exactly the kind of keywords people are searching for in Google. Once you know these, write your articles around them. These are the topics people want to know about. You can use five or even six of these keywords in one article. People will then find your articles and begin to trust your expertise. If you are serious about internet marketing, you have to start here.

Your top keyword should be in the title of the article, preferably at the beginning of the title. If I am typing in “webinar strategy,” and I go on to Google and see an article called “Webinar Strategy: Four Ways To Promote Your Business,” I am likely to look at that article. It is relevant to what I want to know.

Remember your title serves two purposes. It should have the keyword in it, but it should also generate some curiosity because you want people to read your article. you want them to see you as an expert on the topic, and you want to get the backward links.

One more use for keywords is to include them in various places throughout your article. You can even use your less competitive keywords, and Google will rank your article higher for those. Think of it as getting the most bang for your buck.

The bottom line is that when you are setting up an online business, you have to do your research. Come up with the exact keywords people are looking for in your niche. Then write your articles with these words in mind. You will notice an increase in both your traffic and your sales.
